Our first big AFE (Armed Forces Entertainment) shows were in the small island off Japan called Okinawa. There was a two day festival at the Kinser Base called... Kinser Festival. It was incredible to play for the troops stationed out there (more than in any other base out of the US) as WELL as to play for the locals who were invited to the festivities.
We shared the stage with the Chicago Hot Rox dance team, as well as fellow Hawaiians PIMPBOT (as in PIMP ROBOT!!! lol) Great so see the boys... they KILLED it.
Our POC (Point of Contact) Midori was awesome! Such a rad chick. Grew up in Okinawa, so was our Japanese translator for most of the trip.
She showed us the bomb sushi spot in Okinawa and introduced me to the owner/chef... and his sword.
Midori then took us out to the beach the next day...
Then later that night even made us try some crazy sake...(yes, its in with the rattlesnake... crazy)
Overall it was an amazing place, great shows, and great people! Okinawa = two thumbs up!!
