Hi 2022, allow me to introduce myself...

Updated: Feb 14

Aloha everyone,

I just wanted to take some time to properly introduce myself to any new followers, or re-introduce myself to my faithful Anujammers.

My name is Anuhea. Im of Hawaiian German Welsh Chinese and Native American ancestory, and I was born and raised on the island of Maui. I’m the oldest of 4, the daughter of a teacher and a kitchen designer, with family history of music. I attended and boarded at Kamehameha Schools since I was 11, and that’s where I discovered my passion for performing arts and music. My aunty is in a popular Hawaiian female trio called Na Leo Pilimehana and I grew up watching them do their thing. When I was in high school I thought I wanted to be an MTV VJ, or behind the camera creating documentaries. I attended film school at Chapman University in Orange County to pursue that career, but after 2 years I longed for more experience in the school of LIFE. I decided to go on a soul searching odyssey, backpacking all throughout Australia, and ended up moving to the amazing city of San Francisco. I was all about stepping out of my comfort zone- I started performing at open mics, worked a variety of jobs, attended every concert I could, and I even ran for Miss Maui in a pageant! It all led me to the conclusion that I wanted to pursue my passion for MUSIC as my career. I started a band, and a myspace, and recorded some demos at my public access radio station. Posting on YouTube and performing live every week with my new band opened some doors for me. It caught the attention of my aunty, and she and the partners ended up signing me to their record label. We recorded my first album of all original music up in LA and it released in April 2009. The album was well-received and ended up winning two Na Hoku Hanohano Awards for Contemporary Album of the year, and Most Promising Artist. I continued to release singles, and tour around Hawaii, the US, and the world. I was able to use crowd funding (Kickstarter) to fund my next 2 albums with the help of my amazing supportive fans. I got to tour with acts like SOJA, The Green, Common Kings, Rome, Justin Young, Sammy J and so many more. I opened for Jack Johnson on his Kokua Festivals, opened for Bruno Mars, Al Green, Babyface, Billy Currington and shared festivals with some of my favorite artists that have now become friends.

In 2013 I gave birth to my son Ikena Jack. I found out I was pregnant while I was on a huge national tour, but getting pregnant and having a baby never stopped me from continuing to tour and create music. My son has been to like 5 countries with me, and loves to join me on stage whenever he can. He’s now in second grade, loves Fortnite, sports, dancing, singing and sweets.

I have dog son named Boomer, (Golden Retreiver/Australian Shepard) and he is the best doggie in the whole wide world. We all live in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island, and Jordan is a personal trainer and mentor for young athletes on the island.

I just released my new single “Just Keep Jamming” after really struggling during the pandemic. We sadly lost a baby at 20 weeks, and I found myself at a very dark place with my mental health, badly needing a reset. After spending 30 days in a holistic rehab facility I was able to kick my bad coping habits, reset my mind and soul (and medication), and absolutely fell back in love with MUSIC all over again, My song “Just Keep Jamming” talks about how music can help you through the darkest times, and is a reminder to everyone that no matter how hard life can get, you’re never alone.

I’m currently starting the new year with fresh eyes & ears, and a fresh voice. I am loving life right now. I feel like finally, at 36 years young, I’m finding who I really am and wanting to rock it. Mom life, rock star life, entrepreneur life. I’m just striving to maintain this light that I’ve worked soooo hard to cultivate within myself, and I don’t ever want to lose it again.

Life is funny. In 2019 I was on top of the world, I won Island Music Female Artist of the Year, The Female Vocalist of the Year at the Hoku’s, had just gotten engaged in Dublin Ireland, and released my 10th anniversary “best of” album full of all my biggest hits. Fast forward a year and a half later, and I lost my job (like all musicians did), I was struggling in my marriage, lost a baby, and was heading to rehab. Life be like that. The highs, the lows, the in-betweens—we have to go through it all. And I’m thankful for every single step of the way for all that I’ve learned.

I started a Podcast in mid 2021 called “Just Keep Jamming” where I talk about my mental health journey, music, and just connect with my friends on that deeper level. Its been a therapeutic way for me to stay connected with my emotions and to share my story while being transparent and vulnerable. I also have a faithful group of followers on Patreon, a platform where I share exclusive content, music, videos, merchandise and access to Zoom meetings. (Join us!)

Thanks for getting to know me! I’ve worked hard for many years to get to this place, but I’m not done yet. Still so much more on the horizon, and I look forward to sharing it all with you along the way! Keep following here, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, follow my podcast Just Keep jamming wherever you listen to podcasts, and

Aloha always,

Anuhea
